Why the Hot Towel Shave Never Went Out of Style
Hot lather, a straight razor and thirty quiet minutes — the case for the oldest service on the menu.
Before cartridges, subscriptions and vibrating handles, the hot towel shave was the centre of barbershop culture. It survived every grooming trend for one reason: heat, lather and a straight razor do what no multi-blade can.
What actually happens
A steamed towel opens the pores and softens the beard. Hot lather lifts the hair away from the skin. A straight razor then cuts at skin level — one pass with the grain, careful detailing against it. A cold towel closes everything back down.
Why it shaves closer
Preparation does the work that extra blades only promise. Softened hair cuts cleanly at the surface instead of being dragged, which means a closer result with far less irritation.
It is also just quiet
Thirty minutes in the chair, towel warm, eyes closed — clients book it as much for the pause as for the shave. It is the most old-school service we offer, and the one people rebook most loyally.
